TTV Internship Experience - Yathu Manamohan

Published Fri 26 May 2023

Coming into my internship with TTV, I had minimal knowledge and experience of marketing and table tennis. I sought out an internship with TTV as I knew that I would have the chance to learn more about the sport of table tennis and develop my marketing skills to improve my employability once I graduate.

Over the past 10 weeks, I have learned so much about marketing and working within a state sporting organisation. I have had the opportunity to work on large projects which included producing socials and communications for the Take it to the Table marketing campaign and creating a marketing toolkit for clubs/associations. I also had the chance to write articles and news stories for the TTV website and gain exposure to areas such as sponsorship and event administration.

My favourite experiences from my internship involved watching live matches and interacting with the Victorian table tennis community. As part of a video project I was working on for TTV socials, I had the opportunity to observe a training session for the national para table tennis team led by coach Maggie Meng. I was amazed by the skill and passion displayed by the players, as well as the dedication of the coaches. I also got to visit a schools competition and saw first-hand the energy and enthusiasm that young athletes have for table tennis.

As I finish up my internship, I would like to thank Gen, James and Oscar for their guidance and support during my time with TTV. I have a greater appreciation for the sport of table tennis and truly believe that it is a sport for all. I have also grown my skills and experience in marketing, which I can discuss in interviews and will assist in my future career prospects.

I encourage current and future students to take on volunteering or internship opportunities with TTV as they will be rewarded with a fulfilling, worthwhile experience.
