2026 National Championships

2026 National Championships

The Nationals are a week-long tournament consisting of teams and individual events. The teams' events have State and Presidents teams in all age groups. Each State has its own selection criteria to be eligible for selection (see State Team: Eligibility & Points link below for Victorian criteria). Players who either don't quite make it into a State Team or are from a State that doesn't have enough to field a State Team, are combined into a President's Team.

Players who compete in the team's event can also enter individual events.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Be a registered member of Table Tennis Victoria and owe no outstanding monies to Table Tennis Victoria or any of its Affiliates;
  • Be of good standing within the sport and adhere to the requirements of Table Tennis Victoria’s constitution and By-Laws;
  • Satisfy the requirements set down by Table Tennis Australia for State representation – see National Championships Regulations;
  • Complete the prescribed State Team Availability form as available on the TTV website; and
  • Have played at least the minimum* number of approved tournaments prescribed for the relevant age category.

For para‑athletes aiming to compete at the Nationals, classification is a key first step. Classification determines your sport class - essentially grouping athletes with similar functional impairment levels together so competition is fair.

To begin, you must prove eligibility via medical documentation and tests that confirm your impairment meets the Minimum Impairment Criteria for para table tennis.

Then you will be assessed by trained classifiers who will examine your impairment’s impact on the sport‑specific skills of table tennis (e.g., movement, balance, stroke execution).

Once classified, your sport class status is recorded and recognised by Table Tennis Australia.

For Nationals selection:

  • Complete the prescribed State Team Availability form as available on the TTV website;
  • Have played at least the minimum* number of approved tournaments prescribed for the relevant age category;
  • Ensure your classification is final or recognised;
  • Confirm you are entered in the correct class for your event;
  • Be aware that classification may be reviewed or re-evaluated if your condition changes; and
  • Submit medical and supporting documents accurately and on time to avoid eligibility issues.

Yes. Exemptions from the minimum tournament requirement may be granted if:

  • The player has suffered significant injury preventing participation.
  • The player has had official state, national or international commitments that prevented meeting the minimum.
  • Other unforeseen circumstances prevented participation.
  • Requests for exemptions must be submitted via the prescribed form and approved by a majority vote of the State Selection Panel.
  • After selection, TTV will send a provisional announcement email to selected players (and matches the announcement to Presidents team nominations) to allow for appeals and withdrawals.
  • No public announcement is to be made by players until TTV releases the finalised team list on its website and social media.

Yes. A player can lodge an appeal within 48 hours of the public announcement. The appeal must be in writing, on the prescribed form, stating the decision and grounds for grievance.

The TTV Board will consider all appeals and may only reverse a decision if it is shown to be contrary to the constitution/by-laws or “manifestly unreasonable”.

  • Complete required forms: Player Info Form, and for Juniors a Parent/Guardian Permission Form.
  • Purchase and wear the correct State Team uniform (i.e. competition shirt - navy and teal, shorts/skort, tracksuit jacket, and pants). Uniform must be worn for opening ceremony, team events and medal ceremonies.
  • All travel and accommodation costs are the athlete’s responsibility unless otherwise specified.
  • Attend compulsory training sessions (apply to Juniors only). Seniors/Para are encouraged to attend.

Selected athletes will incur several fees including:

  • State Team Entry Fee (set by TTA, passed on by TTV).
  • Team Management Fee (set by TTV, higher for juniors as it includes a Junior Coach component).
  • Junior training Fees (set by TTV, for compulsory sessions).
  • Individual and Doubles competition entry fees to TTA.

Non-payment by deadline may lead to removal from the team and responsibility for cancellation fees.

As an example these fees were set at the following rates in 2023:

  • National Championships State Team Entry Fee: $110
  • TTV Team Management Fee (Senior/Para): $150
  • TTV Team Management Fee (Junior): $350
  • National Championships Veterans State Team Entry Fee: $90
  • TTV Team Management Fee (Veterans): $65
  • Table Tennis Victoria is committed to ensuring every person involved in the sport is treated with administration and integrity.
  • All State Team members (athletes, coaches, managers, parents) must abide by TTV’s Member Code of Conduct and the National Integrity Framework.
  • Breaches may be reported via incident forms; processes include complaints, hearings or referral to the National Sports Tribunal.
  • Those working with under-18s must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • All team members must supply medical information (e.g., Medicare number) and declare any conditions that may affect performance.
  • Players must notify team manager/coach of any injury or illness.
  • Players may be subject to drug testing under Sport Integrity Australia protocols.

Junior Coaches are responsible for leading the junior squad before and during Nationals. This includes supervising training sessions, providing technical and tactical guidance, supporting athlete wellbeing, enforcing team standards, and working closely with team managers and parents.

Coaches are appointed by TTV through an expression-of-interest and assessment process. They must hold valid coaching accreditation, current Working With Children Check (WWCC), and demonstrate experience working with developing athletes.

Junior Coaches Selection Process:

  1. Interested coaches to fill in the Junior Coaches EOI form
  2. TTV received the application form within the specified deadline
  3. TTV evaluates the eligibility requirements, experience, the selection criteria and suitability
  4. TTV then proceeds to inform the successful candidates of their selection.
