CSIRO & the Bureau of Meteorology win the 2022 NWR Communications TTV Corporate Cup

Published Mon 28 Nov 2022

On Thursday 24 November teams from workplaces across Victoria filled the table tennis stadium at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in Albert Park for the 2022 NWR Communications Table Tennis Victoria (TTV) Corporate Cup.

Thirteen teams from eight different organisations including NWR Communications, CSIRO & Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), MSAC, Boost Juice, Infosys Limited, Alchemy Construct, STANTEC, Vitality Brands and Boswen took part in the day of friendly competition and networking.

It was the largest Corporate Cup to be held in Melbourne since the initiative began in 2020. TTV’s Workplace Partnership Program that launched in 2022 and is aimed helping workplaces across Victoria focus on employee wellbeing and promoting a positive workplace culture through physical activity like table tennis, is one of the key factors in the increased entries.

A special thank you has to go out to the sponsors of the event who were responsible for the table hire and prize money, NWR Communications.

“It was a brilliant day spent with our corporate partners and organisations from across Melbourne and Victoria who got down and enjoyed some table tennis last week. Seeing people from different workplaces network and enjoy some physical activity is exactly why the Corporate Cup was created,” said TTV CEO Gen Dohrmann.

“We were also lucky enough to be joined by Melbourne Football Club President and CEO of the State Sporting Centre Trust, Kate Roffey, who made a guest appearance to support the MSAC team and even jumped in the umpire’s chair to help officiate some of the matches which was fantastic to see.”

The teams from CSIRO & BoM were yet again too strong as they successfully defended their 2021 Corporate Cup crown.

During the group stage, both the CSIRO & BoM teams went undefeated and continued their great form into the round robin matches finishing in 1st and 2nd place whilst Infosys Limited narrowly beat MSAC for 3rd place.

“We hope that CSIRO and the BoM will get behind this initiative to encourage staff to play inclusive, health-centric, and fun activities like table-tennis, and this must come in the form of ensuring that the workplaces have accessible, safe and adequate equipment where needed,” said CSIRO’s Mark Collier.

“A big thanks for to all those that participated; it is a worthy cause to give up your own time to extend the workplace friendships and promote a healthy and cooperative workplace. A big thanks to the Table Tennis Victoria team, in particular Sean, Gen, Claire, Jason and Yugandh for their roles in the event’s success.”
