Table Tennis Community Gearing Up for 2026 Spur Afrika Charity Teams Tournament

Published Thu 13 Nov 2025

The Victorian table tennis community is once again rallying together for a great cause, with the 2026 Spur Afrika Charity Teams Tournament set to take place on Sunday 18 January at the Kilsyth International Table Tennis Stadium.

Proudly sponsored by Golden Pebble Hotel and Affordable Table Tennis, the annual charity tournament continues a long-standing tradition of using our sport to create positive change beyond the table. Players of all levels are invited to join the event for a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and meaningful impact.

Over the past 12 years, the table tennis community in Victoria has collectively raised more than $57,000 for Spur Afrika, a grassroots, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering children and young adults in Kenya through education, health, and life skills programs.

As Spur Afrika Australia Managing Director, Rosalie Liu, shared:

“We are so blessed and grateful to have the support of the Table Tennis community in Victoria! This community have collectively raised over $57k for Spur Afrika over the last 12 years. For the last 12 years, every January (besides the COVID year) a table tennis tournament has been held to raise funds for the grassroots, non for profit charity called Spur Afrika. Many singles and teams of people come together for a friendly but competitive match of table tennis in hope to raise funds for the charity. It is through these funds that Spur Afrika has been able to continue running their important programs and work in Kenya.

Spur Afrika couldn’t function without the support of the table tennis community, as we are fully reliant on community and individual funding. Spur Afrika is a locally run Kenyan charity which aims to equip children and young adults in both Kibera slums and Kisumu village through facilitation of health, education & life skills programs. In both Kibera slums and Kisumu, many will not survive the horrendous conditions of poverty, crime and disease therefore to combat this, Spur Afrika provides school sponsorships, authentic mentoring and many other vital public health programs.

With your help we were able to support 160 children to go to school and run 6 programs over 2 locations. It is exciting to witness our Spur children grow up into healthy and happy young adults, as we recently have over 11 students enrolled in college or higher education. This is an incredible achievement as for most of them they are the first person in their family to complete higher education.

In order to continue the life-changing work that Spur does, we require continued funding and support. We are thankful for people like Felix Kung and Greg Bristowe, who have volunteered their time to organise the Spur Afrika Table Tennis Tournament yearly. We are therefore thrilled to be able to participate in the upcoming January 18th Spur Table Tennis Tournament at Kilsyth Sports Centre. We would love everyone to come together and play table tennis for a good cause. Please consider joining the tournament by submitting a registration form.

Thank you for your ongoing support! Every dollar raised will go directly to Kenya.”

The continued success of the Spur Afrika Charity Tournament is a testament to the compassion and generosity of Victoria’s table tennis community, who show that sport can truly change lives - both locally and globally.
