Published Mon 14 Jul 2025

The 2025 Australia National Table Tennis Championships, held in Traralgon from July 6-13, were a fabulous display of our exceptional talent within the State Team.

Held on home soil this year, the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium was bought to life with the whole venue filled with table tennis action to create an electric atmosphere. We were spoiled this year with 4 show courts being livestreamed throughout the entire week, and having our very own Melissa Tapper, Alois Rosario, Angelo Tabone posthumously & Jian Fang Lay were inducted into the TTA Hall of Fame on Tuesday the 8th July.

Both the Men’s and Women’s Open teams placed silver in their respective events, facing some incredibly tough competition this year!

Our U/21 Men’s and Women’s Teams both won Silver against some tough opponents.

Our Juniors & Youth did a fantastic job receiving numerous medals across the age groups.

Both U/19 Boys’ & Girls’ also won a Silver Medal in their category with both of our U/17 Boys’ & Girls’ Teams taking home Gold medals!

The U/15 & U/13 Boys’ Teams won Bronze medals in very tough groups, with the U/15 & U/13 Girls’ teams both winning Gold medals.

The U/11 Boys’ Team claimed victory to take home Gold with both the U/11 Girls’ A & B Teams taking Silver and Bronze to round out the Juniors.

In the Para, our Class 1-5 A Team of Danni and Chris won gold, our Class 6-7 A Team of Jake and Sy won Silver, and our Class 8-11 Team of Anthony and Thi also won Silver.

Victorian State Team Head Coach David Powell was very pleased with the quality of play stating that “we have seen some incredible matches played throughout the Teams competition from our players.”

“It was nice to have a bit of a home advantage for this event, with a fantastic setup in Traralgon helping out our teams” added Powell.

State Team Manager Frank Pearce shared that “the team spirit has been off the charts this year, with everyone being a little bit more coherent.”

Pearce also mentioned that “compared to previous years, the standard has been way higher with a lot of medals coming our way!”

We also heard from State Para Coach Jenny Langridge who shared her thoughts about the Para Squads performance stating "the Victorian Para Table Tennis team delivered an outstanding performance at the recent National Table Tennis Championships held in Traralgon, Victoria. Competing across 25 Para events, the team secured medals in 15 of them, taking home an impressive tally of 8 Gold, 8 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals."

"The squad of 14 athletes, including four first-time competitors at a National Championships, showcased not only their skill and preparation but also the team’s strong values of High Performance, Connection, Inclusiveness, Resilience, and Determination. These values were evident in the months of training leading up to the event and throughout the intense week of competition."

"Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, and support staff for a truly inspiring campaign" added Langridge.

Following the teams our players took their talent to the Doubles and Singles events where we saw more medals coming through.

The pairing of Yousef Hassan & Yi-Jen Hsu won Silver in both the U21 & U19 Mixed Doubles losing out to Cherry Le (VIC) & Clarence Cheng (NSW) on both occasions.
