It is with deep regret, we announce the sad passing of Bill Bates, aged 88. Bill was much loved and admired by all table tennis players Australia wide.
Bill's exploits on the table will be how we always will remember him. In his early 20's, he was ranked No.3 in Australia (1953), and in later years, he was a formidable force on the Veteran scene, winning several State & National Titles. In fact during the 90's, he was untouchable winning 5 National Over 60's titles.
In 2010, after a 7 year retirement, he came out and contested the 2010 World Championships, where defeated the Chinese and top Europeans to win the Over 80 Singles World Title. In 2015, Table Tennis Victoria inducted Bill into their Veteran Hall of Fame.
Bill will be sadly missed, but his memory will be ongoing. Funeral notices will be updated in here once we are advised, however please check the Herald Sun as well for funeral notices
