TTV CEO Gen Dohrmann was pleased with the tournament and how the weekend operated.

“It was a very professional and well-run event, and I loved visiting and having great conversations with so many happy players and community members.”

Tournament Director, Greg Bristowe was extremely pleased with the record numbers for this year’s event.

“What a fantastic weekend of table tennis! When we recommenced this event back in 2013, we only hoped to eventually get the numbers similar to the Country Championships. Due to a strong turnout from 11 Affiliates comprising 84 teams and 276 players, this year’s event will be the biggest event on the Victorian tournament landscape for 2023.”

“Whilst we have conducted this tournament for 10 years now, it started back in 1952 and I believe this was the 53rd Championships. This year we had a Referee, Deputy Referee, 3 umpires and 15 volunteers on hand to make the event run very smoothly. There were over 1300 singles matches played.”

Our next goal is to try and reach the magical 100 teams and to also get several other Metro affiliates to enter as well.”

Overall, the 10th annual Metro Championships was a huge success, seeing a great turnout of players and volunteers across both facilities. A massive thankyou to Greg Bristowe, Graeme Ireland and Yoke-Ching Tan all the other members involved in making this another fantastic event for all to enjoy.
